What to do about Information Overload?

Everybody gets into research mode whether they are buying products, reading or watching free videos they’re trying to educate themselves so they can come to an educated decision without moving forward into something blindly.

However there comes a point when you need to take action and what I’ve found with some of my students is that they have trouble with self discipline.

Self discipline is something that anybody can learn and apply it just has to be practiced and intigrated with a system that works.

The best thing to do is figure out your business vision first and then list everything thats preventing you from getting there.

Then you prioritize that list of items starting with the item on your list that will take you to your business vision the quickest or make you the most money the fastest and decend your list in order of importance.

Then you take one or two major items from that list and put it on your project day to work on it. Your project day can be every other day, or whatever you want.

Before you work on your major project items for the day you will first work on your other daily tasks that you have already allocated in very short amounts of time. Example, reading your favorite online news, posting in your favorite forum, making a tweat.

After you finish your daily routine tasks then you start working on your 1 or 2 critical items from your project list for that day.

This will really help you stay focused but it will come down to keeping yourself disciplined and taking action and not getting side tracked.

Theres actually quite a bit more to this but theres no way I can write all this out here in one post but I hope this helps you out.

Why The Gurus Are Wrong About Your Time Management

I’m sure you’ve read this online somewhere whether in the forums or some e-mail that you received from the guru “flavor of the month” preaching to you about your time management.

It goes something like this…..

The Gurus want you to believe that you should stop wasting your time by -

* Going to forums and hanging out reading and/or participating in discussions
* They tell you to stop reading your local and national news online
* They tell you to quit reading promotional e-mails that you get pounded with in your inbox every day and to unsubscribe to all the mailing lists that you’re on
* They’ say to stop reading blog posts after blog post

The ideology behind this is that if you were to quit “wasting your time” online that you get more accomplished in your business, thus increasing your traffic, your sales, and your profits.

Heres why that’s not only bad advice but can actually set you back and leave you clueless (literally)

Well here’s the deal….

- Let’s just say that you stopped going to forums reading and participating
- Let’s just say you stopped reading your local or national news online
- Let’s just say you stopped reading promotional e-mails and unsubscribed from all the lists that you’re on
- Let’s just say that you stop reading blog posts
- Let’s just say,…(well you get the picture)

Here’s what’ll happen In a few simple words….

You’d be clueless.

You would have no idea what’s going on, not only in your market, but in the world as well.

* You would no longer be able to to keep up on the latest trends and marketing techniques
* You would have no idea what the latest buzz is so you can tweak your marketing campaigns to coincide with the buzz or ride with it
* You would have no idea if you are launching a product of the same type, or at the same time as a similar product
* You’d be virtually shut down to the most powerful medium known to the world and your business would suffer massively
* Your competitors would pass you by and you’d be left in the virtual dust

Here’s what you should do instead

Analyze what you do on a daily basis and schedule a specific amount of time that you can devote to doing these tasks. Yes I do call these tasks because actually they’re very critical to your business no matter what niche you’re in.

But the trick is you have to put yourself on a short time scale by allocating 10, 15, or even 30 minutes for each of these type of daily tasks.

Map it out if you have to, in fact I highly suggest that you do that. Mind maps work great.

In fact a way that I set mind maps up is I make virtual task maps in a mind map program. So all you have to do is click on each task on the flowchart you’re taken directly to that task that has been pre-determined and allocated a specific amount of time.

Do this and you can’t go wrong, you’ll get the best of both worlds

You’ll be able to do the things that you not only enjoy doing but can also help you build your business no matter what niche you’re in.

If you’d like me to help you mind map your business so that you can start working laser targeted, streamline your workflow and increase your productivity then grab one of my coaching and training packages and I’ll work with you one-on-one.
